In Paradise at Lake Malawi - Cape Maclear

Tuesday 10.04:

Waking up the next morning every single muscle in my body was aching. We made ourselves a nice breakfast on the veranda of the empty lodge. At noon we started driving up north to lake Malawi. At 8 pm we arrived in the dark again at Cape Maclear at the beautiful shore of the lake. We passed through the African village and nearly got stuck in deep sand just before arriving at the Eaglenest lodge and campsite. We the help of the local village boys we managed to free our car.

Wednesday 11.04:

The next morning we woke up with the following view:

We couldn’t ask for a nicer place to camp directly at the beach next to huge smooth granite rocks. Suddenly I heard Ju shout out for me. She told me to look into the garbage barrel. A huge dragon like lizard was trapped in it and started making dragon sounds wants it saw us. We soon found out that the surrounding rocks were full off these little dinosaurs.

We spent the day swimming in the clear water, relaxing at the bar and surfing the internet.

The guards left at 9 pm and we had the whole place on our own. The first time since we left Austria we watched TV (until midnight Susi & Strolchi).

Friday 12.04:

Maxwell, a young guy from the village, took us with a motorboat to the nearby island. We snorkeled in the clear water at the rocky granite shore. We saw many colorful small fish.
Maxwell made a small barbeque for us with the local tasty Chomba fish and an equally tasty tomato sauce. We asked him for the simple but magic recipe. Afterwards we went around the island with the boat. Maxwell attracted some huge fish eagles with, of course, fish.
Late afternoon we returned to the village and bought some dirt cheap avocados (10 cent each). We made plenty of Guacamole out of them.
Unfortunately we had to leave the Eagles Nest Campground that night because we had not enough cash on us for another night and the manager was not willing to bargain with us at all.
We just moved to the Mufasa backpackers place in the village and sat for a while at the Reggae Bar until we climbed up to our roof top tent.
